Grafik i Väst är en ideell förening med 240 konstnärer från hela Sverige, Norden, England och Irland, som i 20 år framgångsrikt drivit galleri och grafikbank i Göteborg.
GiV:s intentioner är, förutom att visa och försälja medlemmarnas egen grafik, göra den stora kunskap tillgänglig som ger sig tillkänna när en flerspråkig konstnärlig och teknisk erfarenhet möts på ett ställe.
Vi ordnar således även medlemsutställningar utanför vårt eget galleri och vi bjuder in konstnärer från Sverige och andra länder till oss.
Vi har en vänförening: Grafik i Västs Vänner, som riktar sig mot våra besökare och kunder.
Vännerna erbjuds föreläsningar, besök i verkstäder,
introduktions- utbildningar i alla tänkbara grafiska tekniker och givetvis rabatt vid inköp av grafiska blad från galleriet.
Som Vän-medlem har man också chansen att vinna ett grafiskt blad som lottas ut vid varje vernissage!
Vart annat år görs en grafikportfölj med blad av tre konstnärer. I 2010 års portfölj deltar Nina Bondesson, Modhir Ahmed och Eva Skogar.
Om du är yrkesverksam konstnär och använder grafik som ett uttryckssätt kan du söka medlemsskap i Grafik i Väst. Till medlem kan även antagas konststuderande inom konstgrafiska utbildningar, vid skolor som uppbär statsbidrag.
Ansökningarna ska vara Grafik i Väst tillhanda senast kl 16.00 torsdagen den 31 maj 2012.

Grafik i Väst is a not-for-profit association for printmakers. It was established in 1991 in Gothenburg, Sweden as a result of the growing need for a centre, complementing the institutional infrastructure of the fine arts for local fine art printmakers from the late eighties and onwards. Supported by the local jobcentre, which financed the employment of one administrator and funded by membership shares the original group of 50 has expanded progressively to 240 members to date, based locally, nationally and within Scandinavia. We also have a few members in England and Ireland. Grafik i Väst receives its key funding from Region Västra Götaland in the form of a culture strategy mission, creating an active contribution to both the preservation and development of cultural heritage within Västra Götaland. It houses an impressive bank of limited edition prints.

Grafik i Väst aims to connect artists through its coordination of exhibition production for members, guest printmakers, national and international printmaking organisations and participation in cohesive initiatives within the local and European culture sector.
Here we would like to mention the "European Network for developmement and education in printmaking" - ENDEGRA in whose worshops, in Mölndal, Sweden and Imatra, Finland, several members of Grafik i Väst have taken part.

Grafik i Väst values contemporary approaches to printmaking and the generative image making processes in all its forms of expression, retrospective craft practice, respect for the environment, support for visual intelligence, personal growth through culture experience, ethnic diversity, gender perspectives, intercultural dialogue and partnership.
membership
If you are a professional artist and use graphics as a means of expression, you can apply for membership in Grafik i Väst. You can apply if you are studying printmaking at a post-secondary level, in a state-funded school. Those students will be full member, but paying a reduced rate.

history
In 1991 a group of regional artist-run print associations including Borås, Skövde, Studio Kanten, Bolaget Vardagsbilder HB, Bildverkstan and KKV Göteborg founded Grafik i Väst, a not-for-profit association. A centre for local printmakers was established in rather small impractical premises on the outskirts of the city centre in Gothenburg. A window was created for the sole purpose of showing limited edition prints and a bank for easy and immediate access to member print caches.
In 1995 Grafik i Väst, in collaboration with DASK (unfortunately a now dissolved artist association), initiated as a portal to the Internet. Since 1995 many local artist-run associations have and are able to present themselves and their members via Ramverket’s host website.
In 1997 Grafik i Väst moved to its present more central and larger premises in Gothenburg.
1999 was the first year Grafik i Väst was granted economic support from Region Västra Götaland in the form of a political mission for culture. This mission was awarded for the following ten years. Grafik i Väst currently holds a culture strategy mission for years 2010-2012, playing a defining role in cultural, social and economic sustainability for the local community.
